Allan Caird's smile says it all after winning his 65+ age group race at the Xterra New Zealand Championships in Rotorua on Saturday.
Whanganui's Allan Caird has booked his trip to Maui but it won't be a relaxing vacation after the multisport veteran was victorious at the 16th annual Xterra New Zealand Championships in Rotorua on Saturday.
Competing at Lake Tikitapu the event is the off-road triathlon consisting of a 1km swim, 26km
mountain bike ride and an 11.5km trail run – which is twice round the Blue Lake walkway.
Caird won the 65+ age group championship and has qualified to attend the Xterra World Championship, being held at Laihana in Maui this October.
"It all went to plan, which is really good," Caird said.
"As you get older it's nice to carry on with these things."
