There was a new winner for the July round of the 2018 Blinkhorne & Carroll Forestry Winter Series on Sunday as the veteran pair from Aramoho Whanganui RC opted to diversify.
It was a smaller turnout of 27 craft for the third event of the series, which was held over 7km with a start at the 2km finish by the Railway Bridge, turning opposite Quick Ave and finishing at the National Library Building.
Regular series winners in both double scull and coxless pair, AWRC's Trevor Rush and Richard Brock joined in a MGM4x crew with clubmates Garth Hammond and Bruce Osborne.
Even though their prognostic time was a high 86.28 per cent, better than in June, it was a stacked field this time with all the boats in the top four clearing 88 per cent prognostic times.
After being runnersup up in June, the race was won by the Whanganui River Outrigger Canoe Club's waka ama crew of Howard Hyland, Kelly Thompson, Paki Ngaira, Nikki Crawford, Cindy Ngaira, and Rachel Kingi, with their 33m 8s time being 88.69 per cent prognostic for their craft.
