Students and staff at the Whanganui Learning Centre were unpacking boxes of books last week in preparation for Travelling Books Week.
The free new books will be handed out in Whanganui this week with a request that readers pass them on to be read by someone else when they have finished them.
Travelling Books is a nationwide project run by Literacy Aotearoa and New Zealand Post to support adult literacy.
Seven boxes of books were delivered to Whanganui Learning Centre last week for distribution during Adult Learners' Week - He Tangata Mtauranga, starting today.
Victoria Campbell of Whanganui Learning Centre said the books will be distributed to various locations and some will be handed out to passersby on Victoria Ave later in the week.
