If it was foraged, hunted, fished, gathered or caught - and it was edible - it probably made an appearance at the Waimarino Local Wildfood Challenge.
The festival, which was held at the Heartland Motor Lodge in Raetihi at the weekend, attracted 59 entries - a figure that delighted organiser Bill Manson and ensured the event will return in 2016.
"It's the most entries we've ever had at a first-time Wildfood Challenge," Mr Manson said.
Wildfood Challenges are currently held in Waiheke Island, Eastbourne, Glenorchy, Waipara, and now Waimarino, while another one will be held in Martinborough this year.
Mr Manson said the festival was a "celebration of the way a lot of ordinary New Zealanders gather their food".
