Rangitikei District Council will front Horizons' environment committee next month to explain how it will bring the Marton wastewater treatment plant up to compliance.
The plant has failed compliance for the most part of a decade. The regional council have asked RDC to report on the effect leachate, which it accepts from the Bonny Glen landfill, is having on the wastewater discharge. The council will also have to outline how it plans to fix the plant and identify the environmental effects of the discharge out of the plant is having on the Tutaenui Stream.
The April 15 meeting will be held at the Wanganui District Council building and is open to the public. Rangitikei mayor Andy Watson has said RDC's focus had been on other wastewater plants within the district but it would now move its attention to Marton.
