A memoir, Hard Country is about Robin Robilliard's life and the farm, "Rocklands", she and her husband Garry owned and worked in Golden Bay.
In contrast with the relative ease of her early life, the struggle to keep the farm afloat consumed them for decades, renowned as that piece of land was for bankrupting owners.
"The extraordinary beauty of this Golden Bay region feeds my soul daily," says Robby. "Living in such isolation behind the great Takaka Hill has forced many of us who live here to do things, achieve things that we may never have done in a more conventional area."
The book is published by Random House and Robin was interviewed by Kim Hill on National Radio.
A review of the Hard Country will be in the next issue of Midweek.
The book is for sale in Wanganui at Paige's Book Gallery in Guyton St.
