Extra police have been put into flooded regions.
Police want to remind those communities affected by flooding and water damage that clean-up work is ongoing and patience is required. Extra staff have been deployed into evacuated areas to ensure they are secure and to provide assistance to flood affected residents.
Police are urging people in the lower North Island, especially in the Whanganui and Rangitikei areas, to avoid non-essential travel at this time.
Over the next few days, a cold snap is forecast across the region so drivers should drive to the conditions.
