Fair Trade Fortnight was celebrated at Whanganui UCOL on Monday with morning tea in the atrium, where a selection of tasty treats baked with fairly traded goods was on offer.
The annual event is marked by fundraising events throughout New Zealand and Australia to support Oxfam's work towards a fairer, safer and more sustainable world.
Fair Trade aims to give farmers in the developing world a fairer share of the benefits of trade, enabling them to make lasting improvements to their lives.
Events around New Zealand include morning teas, wine and cheese evenings and bake sales, and celebrity chefs Nadia Lim and Robert Oliver have lent their support to the fundraising with cooking lessons.
Fair Trade Fortnight is on until tomorrow and Wanganui event team leader Diane Paterson said that many local businesses offered support, with Pak'n Save, Countdown and New World supermarkets all donating vouchers to buy Fair Trade products.
