Whanganui and Partners, the district council's new broom in terms of promoting economic development, will soon have another task to complete.
It is being recommended as the body to take care of a revamped perceptions survey of Wanganui, that latest of which was carried out last year.
Staff were waiting until the new council was elected before taking further action. They have now presented a plan to the strategy and policy committee.
Three perception surveys have been carried out every two years since 2009, and they have always targeted Wanganui's traditional visitor markets of Wellington, Manawatu, Taranaki and Auckland along with other key centres. Results from the most recent survey (2013) were presented to council last July.
Stephanie Rose, council's policy and corporate planning manager, said the survey had shown up some "small shifts" in perception about Wanganui but the next step was to implement a "reputation project".
