Wanganui Playcentre Association will hold a public meeting tonight to discuss dwindling attendances.
Association administration and finance support officer Kerry Terrey said the meeting will address the possible closure of the Rapanui Playcentre.
Playcentre had been one of the main providers of early childhood education in rural areas but declining numbers during the past ten years have meant that some centres are struggling, Ms Terrey said.
She said there is a lack of awareness about the educational and social benefits to children and the supportive environment it offered to parents who can also gain valuable training and employment through Playcentre experience.
Tonight's meeting will be 7pm at 823 Rapanui Rd, near Brunswick School. Call Kerry Terrey on [06] 344 7119 or 027-6674163 for information.
