A documentary about the dangers of shaking a baby is set to make its Wanganui debut next week.
Titled The Power To Protect, the New Zealand-produced DVD will be shown on June 10, when the national shaken baby prevention co-ordinator Kati Knuuttila visits Wanganui.
Whanganui District Health Board violence intervention programme co-ordinator Barbara Charuk said there will be an invitation-only screening on the morning of June 10, followed by a public screening at 1pm and a training session for health professionals at 2pm.
Mrs Charuk said she hopes the Wanganui community will make the effort to see the DVD. She said 20 New Zealand babies each year were hospitalised with injuries suffered from being shaken.
"Besides having the opportunity to listen to some brutally honest stories from families whose babies were shaken, the DVD provides practical tools for parents who might be feeling stressed," she said.
