A young woman who backed her car into the window of the Riverview Four Square store on Saturday said she was "a bit overwhelmed" when police and fire service personnel arrived on the scene.

Virginia Larsen, 18 said was not used to driving the Ford Falcon Ute and misjudged the distance when she reversed out of a parking space into the plate glass window.

"I am used to driving my little bubble car and I thought I had more room than I actually did.

"I just stopped off to buy some juice on the way home."

Four Square owner Mike Woodhead said the incident gave people in the shop "a bit of a fright" but no-one was near the window at the time and there were no injuries.

"It is boarded up at the moment because there is no-one in Wanganui that carries that type of glass," Mr Woodhead said yesterday.

"Once I can get the glass replaced, we will also replace the adhesive signage and it will be back to normal.

"It made for a bit of excitement in the day and I'm just glad that nobody was injured."

Ms Larsen said she would judge the distance better next time.

"I'm a bit shaken up but I'm just glad I didn't injure anyone."
