Whanganui Police are trying to track down a driver who fled the scene of a two-car crash at the intersection of Somme Pde and Kaikokopu Rd.

The crash happened about 5.30pm on Tuesday, June 19.

A police spokeswoman said there were no injuries but one driver left the scene.

"Inquiries are ongoing to locate them," she said.

The car was not stolen so police would be talking to the registered owner to identify the driver, the spokeswoman said.

Fire and Emergency Whanganui crews and St John attended the crash, with firefighters providing scene protection. St John staff were not needed.

It was the second crash within a week in Whanganui in which a driver fled the scene. The driver of a stolen vehicle which crashed into a tree in Polson St on June 13, killing 13-year-old Keanu Josephs-Ranginui, ran from the scene. Police have since said the driver is no longer "outstanding".
