The heads-up speed display doesn't reflect on to the inside of the windscreen like others we have seen. Rather Citroen plumps for a small perspex sheet that slides out of its holder in the top of the dashboard in front of the driver's line of sight. Turn the engine off and it retracts into the dashboard.
Much of the interior looks as if it would be more at home in an aircraft cockpit. What switch gear isn't on the centre console, steering wheel or dashboard, is positioned in the ceiling between those two independent sunroofs.
It really is an appealing interior. The rear seat room can be a little cramped with the front seats well back, but there's no issue with space in the luggage compartment.
The DS5 isn't a big vehicle but what is does offer is an impressive rear track. This shows up in that boot space which is easily able to accommodate a fully loaded golf bag lying crossways.
Because the car features a huge sweep of frontal glass, the A pillars have virtually been split in two, to provide the bracing required in the first instance and then to provide a modicum of visibility across the forward area. But we can live with this quirkiness because as a package the DS5 is a car you can easily fall for.
There's an electric park brake that is engaged or disengaged by pulling the switch the same way. Headlights and wipers have auto settings and those headlights swivel to follow the direction of steering.
The multi-function steering wheel links to an electro-hydraulic mechanism which makes for superb feedback to the driver.
Cruise, control, dual zone climate air conditioning, reversing camera with parking sensors, sat-nav and an audio system linking to an array of inputs, round out an impressive interior package.
Safety features include ABS, electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD), emergency brake assist (EBA), electronic stability programme (ESP) and traction control (ASR)
With a diesel engine that goes about its work very quietly, a super ride and an extensive specification list, the Citroen DS5 DSport HDi delivers plenty.
And it comes in unique looking wrapping.
