Most homes in our region are either cold, damp or difficult to heat. A new group - Community Resilience Whanganui (CReW) - wants to address these issues for all residents, regardless of income. The first project is to establish a Curtain Bank.
Windows and glass doors account for the second highest heat loss from the average home, but properly fitted curtains, insulated blinds and window blankets can make a big difference. The Curtain Bank will redistribute donated curtains within our community, promote the proper installation of curtains and highlight the effectiveness of window blankets especially for renters.
The CReW is partnering with the River Exchange and Barter System (REBS) to collect curtains, curtain tracks, Roman blinds and old wool blankets on Saturday, June 11 at the River Market. Whanganui's cold homes can be made warmer with your donations.
