Wanganui dog owners will pay the same to register their dogs in the next financial year as they do now.
Wanganui District councillors yesterday voted unanimously at the full council meeting not to increase dog fees for the 2012-13 year.
The cost of registering a non-working dog will remain at $105, although some owners will be able to receive up to $65 in rebates. The cost of registering a working dog will cost $35 before any rebates. Owners whose dogs are impounded will be charged $50 if the dog is registered and $150 if the dog is unregistered.
Wanganui District Council customer services manager Melanie Heron said indications were that dog revenue and operating costs were on target for this year.
"Increased enforcement action and a tougher line on re-offenders also suggest current fees are appropriate," she said.
