The Wanganui District Council is set to get tougher on dog owners, according to one district councillor.
A behind-closed-doors workshop was held last week and involved councillors and council management. Discussion centred around giving animal control officers more teeth and clarifying the intention of the policy, Jack Bullock said.
Dog control has been in the spotlight over the past few months with several attacks highlighted in the Chronicle and residents have also called for a tightening-up of the rules.
Councillor Jack Bullock said he was pleased the issue was up for discussion and he planned to take a hard line.
"It was a good discussion. It was one that we needed to have; it went over time as well," Mr Bullock said.
