Whanganui's economy has grown faster than the New Zealand average in the past 12 months, increasing by 2.2 per cent in the year to March.
Figures released by Infometrics on Friday in its Annual Economic Profile show the surge by the Whanganui district over the past year, which has come from a base of zero growth in 2015.
Adrian Dixon, manager of Whanganui and Partners, the district's economic development agency, said it was "a significant accomplishment", with the district's 2.2 per cent growth well above the national average which showed a decrease of 0.9 per cent for the same 12-month period.
He said the figures were backed up by a mean earning growth rate of 3.1 per cent in 2015.
