This weekend 120 Red Cross disaster welfare and support team volunteers will take part in a major multi-agency exercise across Wanganui and Rangitikei.
The volunteers, from the lower North Island and upper South Island will be part of Exercise Cyclone Cindy, a multi-agency exercise involving Civil Defence, fire service, police and St John, which starts tomorrow and ends on Sunday.
The scenario is that a cyclone has caused damage to the wider Wanganui region.
It has caused flooding and storm damage and has left homes and businesses without power, gas and/or water.
A major slip has taken out a main sewer line in one suburb.
