BIG DIG: Motorists and cyclists are probably best advised to look for alternative routes through the top end of Dublin St as contractors have started work to repair a broken sewer pipe near the intersection with Victoria Ave.
A Whanganui District Council spokesperson said the emergency works are likely to take several weeks and is necessary after the collapsed pipe created a tomo or sinkhole on Dublin St.
A 30km/h speed limit will be in place around the works and traffic travelling toward the intersection from the north end of Dublin St will be detoured. And cyclists travelling south along Dublin St will need to dismount and use the footpath.
