It was a tough Friday evening under lights in Canberra for Whanganui's Jess Watkin, as her White Ferns team got clean-swept with a nine wicket hammering in third T20 international with Australia.
Moved down the batting order from No 3 to No 6 in an attempt to give the middle order more hitting power, Watkin came in at 68-4 and immediately fell to a brilliant left-handed diving catch by Australian vice-captain Rachael Haynes, running back with the ball coming down over her head.
It didn't get much better when New Zealand tried to defend their meagre 103, as Watkin had a chance at a caught-and-bowl off her spinners from dangerous opener Ellyse Perry (67), but put it down, while the New Zealand fielders also bombed a golden chance at a catch in the next over.
Australia reached their target in the 13th over, hitting the winning runs of Watkin, who finished with 0-15 in 2.3 overs.
Meanwhile, Whanganui's Ben Smith made another decent score of 43 off 58 balls as the Central Districts Stags beat Auckland A by four wickets in their second 50-over game on Thursday.
