They will then head to Fitzherbert Park to take on Horowhenua Kāpiti in the afternoon.
On Saturday, Wanganui meet Furlong Cup winners Subway Manawatū in the morning at Manawaroa, before travelling to Fitzherbert Park to face defending champions Nelson.
On Sunday morning they will wrap up the competition against The Good Home Taranaki at Fitzherbert.
Having two training sessions this week after two weekends of club cricket rainouts, Wanganui coach Warren Marr said they would rather take on Hawke's Bay in this format than any other.
"It's not like you're having to face spin for 40 overs – you just go for it."
Marr will get six players padded up ready to go out after the openers, choosing the best style for the moment.
They could need runs from a slogger, a 'noodler' or an 'accumulator'.
"It's a formula – we work it out as we go. I've told the guys, 'you might come in at No.3 or No.7'.
"We're just thinking – let's go in all guns blazing.
"The shorter format is good for the lesser sides."
Big hitter Nick Harding will have a lot of responsibility opening the batting while, after a frustrating season as Wanganui's new skipper, Chris Sharrock is likely to get a chance up the order.
There are a handful of changes from the Wanganui squad members who played all or part of the Furlong Cup season.
Trey Bidois returns to the side he debuted for as a schoolboy in 2017, while making his debut is Property Brokers United's pace bowler Harpreet Binning.
Marr and Drew Morrison watched Binning in club cricket and wanted to give him an opportunity, with Binning telling Marr he has never had a formal coach.
Protocols in line with the Covid Protection Framework red setting have been implemented so the matches are not open to the public.
The Wanganui team is:
Chris Sharrock (c), Nick Harding, Andrew Penn, Will Hocquard, Mark Fraser, Angus Dinwiddie, Trey Bidois, Levi Woolston, Hadleigh O'Leary, Fraser Kinnerley, Connor O'Leary, Harpreet Binning.
