EARNING revenue is the motivation behind the Whanganui District Council considering out-sourcing food and beverages for some functions at the city's War Memorial Centre.
Council has asked officers to investigate the options as it tries to improve income and cut down operating costs.
Strategy and development manager Charlotte Almond said councillors had asked for the investigation back in May, aiming to set up the War Memorial Centre as Whanganui's premier events centre.
Operating costs for the centre had been set at $470,000 for 2016-17 with income estimated at $90,000 or about 19 per cent of the operating costs.
Ms Almond said a business case had been looked at and it was estimated an extra $111,000 could be generated by having outside sources providing food and alcohol, with the centre having overall management as well as taking a percentage of the revenue.
