The owners of the Bonny Glen landfill are looking to extend operations.
Levin-based Midwest Disposals has applied to the Manawatu-Wanganui Regional Council and Rangitikei District Council for consents to extend its operations at the site on Wanganui road, 7kms from Marton.
Midwest has sought an unlimited term for the land use consent and a term of 35 years for the four discharge permits from the regional council.
The application sought from the Rangitikei Council is a land use consent to extend the operations of Bonny Glen; the disposal of solid waste or refuse, erection of a gas flue to discharge contaminants to air from burning waste gasses, and all supporting activities. Five applications have been sought from the regional council that include a land use consent for land disturbance, and four discharge permits that includes discharging stormwater into the Kahuraponga Stream; discharging solid waste, leachate and contaminants from composting into land and discharging contaminants to air from solid waste.
All discharges are associated with the proposed extension.
