At 6 years of age, Troy Teki could be called a soapbox-derby veteran, having competed in the last two annual events. This year his sister Isabelle, 4, will make her debut and she says she is ready. "We will pack a few cushions around her, like we did with Troy the first time he entered," said dad Tristan.
The siblings will compete in separate age categories and will use the same cart constructed from a kit-set imported from America. The derby is on Drews Ave, Wanganui, on Monday.
"Isabelle is ready for this. She is a very confident personality and she has been riding the mini four-wheel motocross bike for a while."
The races run from 9.45am to 3.30pm, followed by the prizegiving, when the 2015 champion will be named.
The derby is part of Vintage Weekend. For more information, contact Mick Paul on 027 442 0378 or Jason Granville on 021 669 515.
