The current chair of the rural community board will stand for Whanganui mayor.
Alan Taylor announced on Friday he will stand for mayor and Whanganui District Council. He will not contest a seat on the rural community board.
Mr Taylor is part of a four-strong team, Whanganui Beyond 2030, that will contest the October 8 local government elections.
Mr Taylor said he had been thinking about standing for mayor for some time. However, his business commitments - he runs a farm and has other business interests - meant that he hasn't had the time up till now.
"But I have restructured things which means I'll now have time to put into the mayoralty.
