A young child died in a crash yesterday afternoon on SH4 between National Park and Owhango.
Only one vehicle was involved in the 1.15pm crash. Travelling north at the time, it was reported to have crossed the centre line before the crash.
The smash was one of two weekend crashes in which children died, prompting a call from police for parents to ensure their children are properly restrained in vehicles.
There were three occupants in the vehicle, one of whom was the child.
On Saturday an 11-month-old girl suffered serious injuries when the car she was in rolled near Raumati South, north of Wellington, about 2pm.
