Whanganui Green Party candidate Nicola Patrick is hosting her first meet-the-candidate event this Saturday at Lucky Bar.

"I'm keen to break down the stereotypes around the Green Party by giving people a chance to get to know me," Ms Patrick said.

She said there were many assumptions about Green Party policy that were incorrect and she was happy to talk through people's questions.

"Too often the environment and the economy are pitched as being in conflict but there is another way. We need to look for new solutions instead of buying into trade-offs."

Ms Patrick is crowd-sourcing speech topics via her Facebook page.

"At a serious level the Greens represent a new way to do politics where transparency and fairness are fundamentals.

"But we also like to have fun so I'm happy to talk about my favourite karaoke tunes as well as policy, if that's what people want," Ms Patrick said.

*Ms Patrick will be at Lucky Bar on Wilson St from 5.30pm on Saturday 22 April, speaking about 6.00pm.
