More than 40 years of diligent service to bowls, both on and off the greens, has earned Carol Morpeth a life membership to the Wanganui Bowling Club.
The club's constitution only allows for five living life members, so with the sad passing of Leona (Lea) Boulton in October last year, the way was clear for Morpeth's considerable deeds to be recognised.
Morpeth joined the Nelson Street Women's Bowling Club in the 1987-88 season. She was on its Match Committee from 1989-92 and convenor of that body in 1992-93 after which she became president for two years from 1993-95. Morpeth returned as convenor of the Match Committee again in the 1995-96 season.
With the amalgamation with the Wanganui Bowling Club, Morpeth became president in the 2004-2005 season, held the position of immediate past president from 2005-2007 and was a committee member through to the 2014 Annual General Meeting.
She had been the social/fundraising co-ordinator for some years and raised many funds for the club and for representatives attending national finals over this time - the successful wine and cheese function, quiz nights and those many $40 scratchie raffles were Morpeth's legacy.
