Gearing up for the January tournament are (from left) Gareth Jones (David Jones Motors), Grant Clark, Geoff Lott (Wanganui Insurance Brokers), Matt Carroll and Simon Humphreys (Flooring Xtra).

A near-new car will be up for grabs at Castlecliff Golf Club's 2019 Wellington Anniversary Weekend tournament.

The tournament is scheduled for Sunday, January 20, with a reserve day on the Monday if needed.

The tournament is limited to 30 teams of four, with three competitions within the tournament.

There will be a yellow ball stableford competition played in conjunction with a white ball stableford.

The car, a 2018 Suzuki Swift GLX valued at $24,500, is the prize for the hole in one competition.

"We run the tournament every Anniversary Weekend but there hasn't been a hole in one car giveaway for as long as we can remember," club president Matt Carroll said.

"The yellow ball tournament is very popular with our members and visitors."

In the yellow ball stableford, if a team loses its ball it is out of that part of the competition but can still continue with the white ball stableford.

With a shotgun start, all entrants will have an even chance of winning the car.

The hole in one competition will apply to a selected par 3 hole.

If more than one golfer holes out, there will be a playoff to decide the winner.

The tournament will be an open competition for amateur affiliated golf club members. Entry is $100 per team.

Club captain Grant Clark said the club appreciated the backing of local sponsors Gareth Jones of David Jones Motors, Geoff Lott of Wanganui Insurance Brokers and Simon Humphreys of Flooring Xtra.

"We are so grateful for their support," Clark said.

People can expect to see the sign written car around Whanganui in the lead-up to the tournament.
