Car smashes through Eastown Rd fence in Whanganui

Police are investigating how a car smashed into the fence of an Whanganui East property.

Neither of the two occupants were seriously injured in the crash yesterday afternoon but one was taken to Whanganui hospital to be assessed.

Emergency services were called to the scene, near No 3 Line, at about 3.15pm and the road was down to one lane briefly.

Constable Johnathon O'Byrne said the vehicle was heading East when it left the road.

Only one car was involved and the driver was helping police with inquiries.

"The manner or the reason is yet to be determined," O'Byrne said.

"It's just, for some reason, gone of the left hand side of the road, gone through a fence and hit a tree."

O'Byrne said police would like to hear from anyone who saw the crash or the vehicle in area around that time.

"Just the manner of driving or anyone who saw anything out of the ordinary at that time."
