Pedestrian hurt
A pedestrian was taken to Whanganui Hospital after being struck by a car in Victoria Ave's Bridge Block, between Taupō Quay and Ridgway St, about 2.30pm yesterday. A police spokeswoman said the extent of the pedestrian's injuries was not known and inquiries were being made into the incident.
Weapons penalty
A man was sentenced to 11 months of home detention by Judge Dugald Matheson in Whanganui District Court this week, having been convicted of unlawfully possessing firearms and ammunition. Whanganui police found in the possession of Raymond Wallace a .22 rifle, an SP5K semiautomatic handgun, a sawn-off .22 rifle and 34 rounds of ammunition. The weapons and ammunition were ordered to be destroyed.
Man on charges
Texas Evan Cuff appeared in Whanganui District Court this week on an array of charges. They included theft, burglary, shoplifting, procuring or possessing a cannabis plant, procuring or possessing methamphetamine, possessing or using utensils for methamphetamine and receiving property. Cuff will appear again for a case review hearing on August 14.
