Autogyro spin-in
The New Zealand Autogyro Association hold their annual winter fly-in this weekend. Gyrocopters will be on display at Wanganui Aero Club on Airport Rd tomorrow and Sunday from noon until 2pm. Free admission.

Drink-drive recidivist
A Whanganui man has racked up his third drunken driving conviction. Stephen George Alexander in
April admitted his third charge of excess breath alcohol having been convicted of the same offence in 2008 and 2009. Judge Philip Crayton sentenced Alexander to 120 hours of community work and disqualified him from driving for one year and one day. Judge Crayton said he understood that Alexander was trying to get away from a volatile situation. "But it does not excuse your decision to drive in order to get away."

Myrtle rust find
Another plant with myrtle rust has been found in Whanganui, on Bastia Hill. The finder rang the Ministry for Primary Industries and sent a photograph of it, which confirmed the infection. It is unlikely to be removed, because there are other infected plants within 50km. The first two infected Whanganui plants were found last month.
