Stratford recorded one win from two, as did the fours, while the pairs had a draw and a loss.
The final day of section play on Saturday saw the pairs and the fours both get two wins, while Stratford had two narrow losses.
This left them with seven wins and a draw from 15 matches, which was only enough for sixth out of the seven teams, as Northland and Thames Valley advanced to post section play.
It was a competitive pool, as one more win would have seen Wanganui finish third.
In the Men's draw, the Wanganui team of Gavin Scrivener (singles), Ray Park and Alan Dickson (pairs) and the fours team of Bruce Winterburn, Kevin Coombe, Tony McRae and Ray Wilson started their tournament off on Friday with three rounds of play.
Scrivener, who the day before had been part of the winning North Island team in a North v South fixture to kick off the event, had three close losses.
The fours won two out of three rounds, while the pairs team were able to record one win.
Saturday's rounds started at 8am with the first hour being played in quite a thick fog at Papatoetoe.
Scrivener recorded a win in the final round over his Auckland opponent, which meant the home side finished third and missed post section.
The Wanganui pair had one win while the fours continued their strong tournament with two victories.
This left Wanganui with seven wins from 15 matches, which was only enough to finish fifth, as Southland and Hawke's Bay advanced to post section.
Again, like the Wanganui Women, another win would have seen them finish a more respectable third.
Canterbury went on to win the men's title, while home team Auckland claimed the women's championship.
Bowls Wanganui would like to thanks their sponsors – David Jones Motors and Small Business Accounting for their generous support which allowed the representative teams to travel and participate in Bowls NZ's premier regional competition.
