An "absolute blind drunk" woman who kicked a police officer in the leg appeared in the Whanganui District Court on Tuesday.

Gina Michelle May Sharrock was seen standing in the middle of Guyton St on June 18, yelling and swearing at a man, police prosecutor Sergeant Stephen Butler said.

Police offered to give her a ride home, but she began swearing at police before turning back to the man and "asking him for a fight".

Sharrock, 29, was intoxicated at the time.

Police brought her to the police station charge room. Sharrock then walked up to a police officer and kicked him in the leg.

She pleaded guilty to assaulting the officer, and disorderly behaviour.

Defence lawyer Harete Hipango said Sharrock could not remember much of the incident.

"Abominable behaviour by the defendant, she's plainly embarrassed by the behaviour," Ms Hipango said.

"The other person involved was her partner."

Judge Philip Crayton said Sharrock had gotten "absolute blind drunk".

"The police officer came along and was just trying to do his job," he said.

He sentenced her to nine months of supervision
