The sight and sound of dozens of BMW motorcycles turned heads in the Whanganui region during the weekend.
Groups of riders went as far afield as Ohakune, Hunterville and Pipiriki, on sealed and gravel roads. Their grunty bikes make a distinctive sound.
"They're not noisy like Harleys. They have a very dignified sound," Heather Mitchell-Anyon said.
The BMW Owners Register had its annual general meeting and activities during the weekend. Ms Mitchell-Anyon was on the 10-member Wanganui committee that hosted it. The event was based at the Whanganui River Top 10 Holiday Park, with catering by Infusion.
A total of 94 people and about 60 motorcycles came from all over New Zealand. They included women owners like Jo Buckner from Rangiora.
