Whanganui's former All Black and successful businessman Bill Osborne has ascended to the highest echelons of New Zealand rugby with his election to the NZRU vice president role yesterday morning.
At the union's annual meeting, Osborne was elected by a comfortable voting margin of 58-32, ahead of fellow former All Black Blair Furlong from Hawke's Bay.
The 62-year-old Osborne was nominated by the Wanganui Rugby Football Union.
Under the constitution, the NZRU vice president serves a two year term before automatically ascending to the president position.
Current vice president Maurice Trapp is taking over from outgoing president David Rhodes.
