Hordes of motorbikes roared from Whanganui across to Waiinu Beach on back roads last weekend.
It was the West Coast Riders' Sixth Annual Ocean View Rally said Shane Jordan, one of 14 members of the Whanganui club. It's a social club open to bikes of any kind, and focused on safe riding.
The rally attracted male and female riders from all over the North Island. It's held every year and takes a lot of organising.
Riders pay $30 for the weekend, and there are 80 beds available for them at the rally's base, the Defence Force huts at Landguard Bluff. Some of them stay in tents, caravans and buses there, or in motels in Whanganui.
The riders set off from their base on Saturday morning, took back roads to Waiinu Beach and were given a barbecue meal there.
