Fairy lights and costumes galore took to Whanganui streets last Friday for the first Light Up Bike Spectacle.
The family-friendly spectacle saw around 500 people stretch along the Te Tuaiwi Shared Pathway on St Hill St to the city to North Mole Shared Pathway beside the Whanganui River on illuminated wheels, walking with lanterns, watching from the sidelines, recording the magic or performing.
Participants were entertained along the way by glowing performers from the River Rockers Whanganui, Wanganui Community Choir, Kung Fu School, Community Drumming Whanganui and the Wanganui Boys and Girls Gym Club.
The parade and workshops were funded by Whanganui District Council, the New Zealand Transport Agency and Whanganui and Partners.
The event was also supported by Green Bikes, the Bike Shed and Velo Ronny's Bicycle Store.
