The Whanganui Vintage Weekend has been officially launched for 2014 with a packed programme of events and activities.
Sally Jane Smith, Mainstreet Wanganui's marketing co-ordinator for the event, said about 45 people were at the launch on Saturday and enjoyed a selection of vintage cars, cucumber sandwiches, cupcakes and were entertained by an old-fashioned "oom-pah" band. New events for next year's event will include a champagne breakfast to benefit Women's Refuge and the Boundless Banquet, a sit-down dinner extending down Victoria Ave.
The Whanganui Regional Museum will also be involved with a "pop-up museum" appearing at different sites over the weekend offering period photos in costume for a $2 donation.
Also to be held during Wellington Anniversary Weekend will be the Wanganui Vintage Car Club's 60th anniversary motor show at Springvale Stadium. A wide variety of veteran, vintage and classic automobiles is expected for the show, some of which will participate in the annual Burma Rally on Sunday January 19.
The Soapbox Derby and Rivercity Caboodle will also make a return, as will the outdoor movie screening.
