Delia Sowry was one of a number of members of the Girls' Brigade honoured recently at Government House in Wellington.
She, along with other young women from throughout New Zealand, was presented with her Queen's Award certificate by Governor-General Dame Patsy Reddy.
A dinner function was held for the recipients and their families, and Girls' Brigade national commissioner Charlotte Saunders was also present for the ceremony.
The Queen's Award is a two-year programme of demanding work which includes six months voluntary community service. Delia — a member of the 1st Feilding Girls' Brigade Company — did her service at the Edale rest home in Marton.
She also completed two initiative tasks — preparing a promotional pack and hosting an event – created a ballgown, and attending a national assessment weekend.
