When it comes to all things glass, Kathryn Wightman, international award-winning glass artist and lecturer in Glass and Visual Arts at UCOL's School of Creative Industries, is an expert.
Wightman was the winner of the Sarjeant Gallery Te Whare o Rehua Arts Review open award this year for her glass work Breathe this year.
It is the most recent of many national and international prizes the artist has won and she will be sharing her expertise at a Whanganui public lecture, Using Glass to Challenge your sense of Reality, this month.
Wightman utilises glass to mimic textile surfaces, which aim to challenge the viewer's sense of reality.
Hybrid decorative patterns are deconstructed to create multi-layered compositions. Each layer is stacked to add depth, allowing patterned forms to grow from the surface of the glass.
