Whanganui Police are helping in the search for missing 10-year-old boy Alexander (Alex) Fisher.

Searchers yesterday found Alex's inhaler as they scoured the Waitarere Forest, near Waiterere Beach in the Horowhenua.

Alex went missing from the domain near the forest in the early hours of October 6. As time passes, police are increasingly worried for his safety.

In a development yesterday a man believed connected to the disappearance, appeared in Levin District Court, charged with illegally possessing a knife in a public place, Forrest Rd, Waitarere, on Monday night.

Forrest Rd is where the search for Alex is centred.

The man was given name suppression and will stay in custody until next week.

A search and rescue operation overnight on Tuesday failed to find Alex.

He went missing from the south side of the Waitarere Forest.

Area Commander Inspector Sarah Stewart said there was currently no evidence of foul play.

Extra search and rescue teams from Wellington and Wanganui with dog units have been recruited for the search.

Police also recovered an asthma spacer and a pencil case belonging to Alex.
