After weather conditions caused the cancellation of the annual Easter Fishing Competition's first day on Saturday, competitors came out in force yesterday.
Organiser Trevor Bailey said 184 entrants competed to win prizes for the biggest snapper, blue cod, gurnard, kahawai, terakihi, John dory and trevally.
The weigh-ins were still being tallied at 5pm ahead of the winners being announced at the Wanganui Cosmopolitan Club but Mr Bailey said he could safely say the winner of the snapper category was Terry Egan with a fish weighing 9kg.
A $10 entry ticket put entrants in the draw for a 2016 Suzuki Jimny.
Other prizes included fishing gear for the heaviest fish in each category and a spot prize of a $2500 outboard motor from Tasman Marine.
