A man who failed to slow down while driving through roadworks and crashed into a ditch was three times the legal blood alcohol limit.
Cornell Hawea Mason was driving on State Highway 3 near Whangaehu about 2.40am on March 19 when the incident occurred.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Drew Morrison told the Whanganui District Court there were roadworks being carried out at the time and a 30km/h speed limit was in place.
He said Mason failed to slow down and crashed into a drain. While receiving medical treatment as a result of the crash, Mason was found to have 164mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood. The limit is 50mg.
Judge Chris Sygrove said it was Mason's second conviction and another one could earn him a prison sentence.
