Wanganui vintage transport enthusiasts got an unexpected treat yesterday when they spotted three classic Ford cars parked in Victoria Ave.
Just as the Burma Rally and the Classic Cluster of Vintage Weekend are fading from memory another bevy of antique vehicles passed through town on their way to the Leadfoot Festival at Hahei in Coromandel.
The three V8-powered Fords have travelled from Christchurch and Dobson in the South Island to compete in the biennial event at Rod and Shelley Millen's private grounds at Leadfoot Ranch.
"It is essentially a hill climb race up the Millens' mile-long driveway and they invite a range of people with interesting cars to attend every two years."
Joe Gillman with his 1935 coupe, Allan Wylie with his 1936 coupe and John Gillman with his Model A Roadster, all powered by flathead V8 motors, competed in 2013.
