Ms Morris said the first EasyVote packs started arriving in voters' letter boxes from Friday, with 3.16 million to be delivered over the next week. EasyVote packs are being sent to all voters who were enrolled before August 23. The personalised EasyVote card makes voting quicker.
There are 485 advance voting places around the country, up from 295 in 2014. Between Whanganui and Patea there are four advance voting places.
Chief electoral officer Alicia Wright said there had been a big increase in advance voting over the past two elections.
"So this election, we are providing even more voting places in convenient locations where people can cast an early vote," Ms Wright said.
"People will also be able to enrol, check or update their enrolment details at any advance voting place - so they'll be able to enrol and vote at the same time."
Ms Morris said most advance voting places are fully accessible or accessible with assistance for people in wheelchairs or with limited mobility.
For those who want to vote but have difficulty getting to a polling place, Ms Morris said there was the option of a takeaway vote or a postal vote. Election staff don't do home visits but a voter could appoint an agent to assist them.
"Staff will visit every hospital, rest home and care facility to make sure people there can vote," Ms Morris said.
