A "sea of purple" hit the streets of Whanganui on Saturday for the Alzheimer's awareness month 2017 Memory Walk.
Alzheimers Whanganui manager Wendy Paterson said about 250 people took part in the walk from the Bearing sculpture on the riverfront to Dublin St Bridge and return.
"It was absolutely wonderful, it was a lovely day and there was a sea of purple with people wearing their purple T-shirts," Mrs Paterson said.
"There were a lot of younger people which is fantastic to see and there were people with their dogs dressed up in little outfits. It was great to get such a good turnout on election day when people may have had other things on their minds."
Mrs Paterson said the provisional fundraising total for the day was $1300.
