It's one of the biggest weekends in Whanganui events calendar, with the popular Vintage Weekend and a host of other events. Here are our top 5 events that you shouldn't miss.

5. Marton Country Music Festival
Catch big names in country music such as Joni Harms (United States), Brendan Dugan, Dennis
Marsh and Marian Burns.

Saturday, 9.30am-6pm, and Sunday, 9.30am - 12 noon.
Sir James Wilson Memorial Park, Rira Street, Marton
Cost: Saturday $25, Sunday $10

4. Capital Classic Athletics
This event, which was unexpectedly moved from Wellington to Whanganui, will include Commonwealth Games qualifying trials.

Saturday, from 3pm
Cooks Gardens, St Hill St
Cost: free entry

3. Wanganui Vintage Car Club's Burma Rally
Check out these wonderful cars before they leave for the rally, or after they finish.

Sunday, 8.30am-1pm
The rally starts and finishes at Pakaitore/Moutoa Gardens
Cost: free

2. Soapbox Derby
Come along and cheer for your favourite homemade soapbox car.

Monday, practice starts at 9am, racing starts at 10am
Queens Park, Drews Ave
Cost: free

1. Rivercity Caboodle
Whanganui largest street carnival, featuring live music on two stages.

Saturday, 12 noon till late
Whanganui's CBD
Cost: free
