$220,000-plus in NZCT grants for Whanganui organisations

Funding boost: Wanganui Motorcycle Club has received a grant of $50,000 for an airfence in the latest round of NZCT funding.

Nine Whanganui organisations are getting a share of more than $220,000, thanks to the latest grants from the New Zealand Community Trust (NZCT).

In September, NZCT awarded grants to the following organisations:

- Alzheimer's Whanganui ($6000 towards salaries for manager, diversional therapist, diversional therapist/community co-ordinator and office administrator).

- Hockey Wanganui ($33,000 towards rental charges, salaries of operations manager and support officer, and travel and accommodation for U15 and U13 reps).

- Cancer Society of NZ Wanganui Rangitikei Waimarino Centre ($5000 towards therapeutic massage for cancer patients).

- Wanganui United Cricket Club ($11,773 for cricket balls for club teams and junior team, ground rental and van hire for away games).

- Marist Football Club ($700 for playing shirts, goalie shirt and two sets of gloves).

- Wanganui Stockcar and Speedway Club ($10,000 towards medical services for speedway meetings, radios and headsets).

- Wanganui Cricket Association ($38,900 towards Chapple Cup, U15 and U17 participation costs, contract for senior men's coach, senior men's manager, women's representative coach, cricket balls and training equipment, travel and accommodation for Wairarapa and Manawatu games, and umpires' fees for the men's and women's representative season).

- Wanganui Motorcycle Club ($50,000 for airfence and plastic barriers to support airfence).

- Wanganui Squash Racquets Club ($65,000 towards men's and women's changing room, toilet and shower facilities, and water heating system).

The grants are made from funds that NZCT receives from gambling machines in local venues.
